FAQ & Insurance

Questions, answered

The things people ask most before renting a space. Anything not covered here — just email us.

The short version on insurance

You must insure your own rig and show proof when you sign. Haystack Storage carries no coverage on your property, and everything is stored at your own risk. This keeps rates low — it is a condition of the rent.

Do I need my own insurance?

Yes. You must maintain your own insurance on the stored rig and its contents — the agreement calls for fire and extended coverage with theft, vandalism and malicious-mischief protection for the full replacement cost of the property.

You provide a current declarations page showing that coverage when you sign. Haystack Storage does not insure tenants' property, and the rig is placed in the space at your sole risk.

How do I reserve a space?

Submit the Request a Space form, or email brett@haystackstorage.com with your rig type, its length and width, and the dates you need.

Brett checks what's open and replies with the rental agreement and a PayPal link. A request is not a confirmed reservation until you hear back.

How do payments work?

Once your space is confirmed, you set up an automatic monthly payment through PayPal. On a phone you can pick Venmo at checkout — it runs on the same PayPal system.

No deposit, no setup fee. A $25 charge applies to any returned or dishonored payment.

What are the access hours?

You can come and go any time except between 10 pm and 7 am. Indoor building access is arranged with staff in advance since it stays locked.

What size space do I need?

Measure your rig's total length and width, including the trailer tongue or hitch and any overhang. Outdoor spaces come in 35 ft and 40 ft lengths at 10 ft wide; the indoor space is 35 ft × 10 ft. Between sizes? Go with the larger one.

What can't I store?

Spaces are for personal storage of RVs, campers, boats, jet skis and enclosed trailers only. Not allowed: running a business from the space, any human or animal occupancy, leaving trash, and storing welding, flammable, explosive or otherwise hazardous materials. Nothing prohibited by law.

Year-round vs. winter seasonal — what's the difference?

Year-round runs month to month for as long as you need the space. Winter seasonal covers October through April at the same monthly rate, after which the rig comes out for the season (weather permitting).

What happens if I stop paying?

If rent or other charges fall past due, access to your space can be denied. Unpaid balances are subject to a lien under the Nebraska Self-Service Storage Facilities Act, and the stored property may be sold to satisfy that lien after at least 45 days' written notice and an advertised sale. The full process is spelled out in the rental agreement.

How do I move out?

Tell Brett you're leaving, cancel the recurring PayPal payment, and remove the rig by your removal date (weather permitting). Don't leave the rig or other property behind after the term ends — abandoned property is handled under the agreement and applicable law.
